When Don Beeson and I founded BSB with Kathleen Skinner in 2002, we had already been working as registered patent attorneys for years: I began in 1994, Don in 1973.
As an exclusively intellectual property practice, we had a simple goal: to help innovative people turn their ideas into lasting success. Kathy has since retired, but Don and I are still going strong.
Why? Because we love what we do.
On paper, we’re specialized business attorneys. In practice, we’re advisors, analysts, creative collaborators and problem-solvers. We provide clients with expertise that’s essential in a world where a business often succeeds or fails based on the viability of its intellectual property.
But the truth is, it's not only about business.
More important are the people behind the patents and trademarks. Start-ups with a bold vision. Established companies with decades of creativity behind them. Global brands navigating complex portfolios. At the heart of every enterprise is someone’s imagination, sweat, and belief in an idea. Intellectual property is about the people who create it, the time they invest, the risks they take, the dreams they devise.
That's what keeps us inspired.
Many of our clients have been with us for 20, 30, even 40+ years. They might say it’s because we consistently exceed expectations, or because we’re relentless about quality, or because we can discuss the finer points of patent and trademark law for much longer than most anyone wants to listen.
But we think the real reason is simpler: we care.
We care about protecting more than IP—we care about protecting hopes and dreams. We care about protecting your future. And we’re proud to have shared in the many successes of our clients over the years.
What else should you know about us?
We’re not corporate “suits” (ties are rare). We’re ethical. Honest. Hard-working. Occasionally even fun.
We love new ideas, and we’d love to hear yours.
